The Central Silk Technological Research Institute, Bangalore, a unit of the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India is organising a 10-day capsule training programme on "Product design, development and diversification and possibilities for silk" from December 31, 2012 to January 11, 2013 at Central silk.
Board complex, BTM Layout, Madivala, Bangalore for the benefit of textile students, fashion design students, faculties of colleges, industrial workers and housewives.
The subjects covered under the training programme are theory and practicals on Indian silk industry, demand and supply of silk, silk industry structure, competence of India in global silk, varieties of silk and textile production, physical and chemical properties and aesthetic properties of silk, types of silk in market, silk technology and flow chart of silk activitie, silk applications for medical, industrial and sports, surface ornamentation on facric, dyeing andd printing handworks, knitting and non-woven fabrics, role of textile laboratory and bye production utilisation.
CSTRI is the only research institute in the country dedicated to the Research & Developmental activities related to silk technology. CSTRI was established in the year 1983 by the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India.
Till then, silk technology had only the status of a division in the sericultural research institutes in the country. Appreciating the need for a greater thrust on the demand side of the silk industry, the establishment of CSTRI was the first step in the right direction. Today, CSTRI is recognised as one of the Textile Research Associations in the country by the Government of India.
