Artisan courses
The Multi Disciplinary Training Centre, Khadi and Village Industries Commission is organsing a two months bakery artisan course from January 1, 2013 to February 2, 2013 andd agarbathi course from January 1, 2013 to February 2, 2013.
The courses are mainly to empower the educated unemployed youth, NGOs and self-help groups. Sponsored candidates will be paid a stipend of Rs 800 per months for residential and Rs 500 per month for non residential trainees.
The training centre will guide the trainees to avail loan with subsidy under Prime Minister Employment Guarantee Programme scheme of KVIC to start their own units. Call 080-25650285 for details.
Biomedical scholarship programme
The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, is celebrating the launch of its newly formed Department of Biomedical Engineering with the introduction of a scholarship programme for Indian students.
The Biomedical Engineering Celebration Awards for India will be available to exceptional students applying for the one year taught MSc in Bioengineering.
This new Department combines the well-established Bioengineering Unit and the National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics, both highly rated with an internationalreputation for research and teaching.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering has a large international student population and a global research profile.
These awards celebrate the new department's launch as well as acknowledging long and well established links with India.
The Bioengineering Unit was formed in 1962 and the National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics is the only centre offering Category 1 (international standard) degrees in Prosthetics and Orthotics in the UK.
The Biomedical Engineering Celebration Awards are open to all well-qualified applicants from India joining the one year full-time postgraduate MSc in Bioengineering in Session 2013.
The value of each award is £6,000,The final submission date for applications is May 31, 2013 and applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application in June 2013
Selections for WorldSkills 2013
Aptech in association with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), would be holding national selections to determine who would be representing India in the Web Design discipline at the next WorldSkills Competition to be held at Leipzig, Germany, in July 2013.
Interested participants in the selection process may download the application forms from the website - http://www.aptech-education.com/nsdc/nsdcindex.aspx.
The final date for submission of applications is December 30, 2012. The national selection competition is open to students below 23 years and those born after January 01, 1991.
Participation in the competition is free of cost, and travel and accommodation of the national winners would be covered.
The best entry will represent India in the WorldSkills championship to be hosted in Germany next year.
To qualify for the competition, the candidates need to submit a test project and the shortlisted students would be trained by Aptech and designated experts for three months without any cost.
Possessing knowledge about XHTML, Java script, CSS3, PHP, Apache, MySQL is essential.
Participants are required to include the project title, case diagrams, class diagrams, sequence diagrams/architecture diagrams, ER diagrams, database schema diagrams, screen shots of at least 5 screens, wireframe and sample reports in their web projects.
Each contestant would be allowed a single entry for qualification. Along with the project, applicants need to submit their CV, scan copies of the passport and original documents, signed and attested by the University or the workplace certifying the grade/position of the competitor.
The jury would shortlist the best entry on the parameters of planning, designing, client side coding and server side programming for the project. Entries would be qualified on the basis of submission of documents, personal interview and on-site evaluation of the applicant. All applicants would be awarded a certificate of participation.
BA Graphic Communication course
The School of the Arts at UK based Loughborough University has invited applications for its undergraduate programme in Graphic Communication and Illustration (BA Hons).
This three year programme has been designed with the aim of enabling students to explore the fundamentals of Graphic Communication and Illustration.
It provides students the opportunity to develop a range of creative idea-generating and visualisation skills, exploring the right approach to connect with different markets (commercial, social, political or environmental).
It encourages them to develop both individual leadership and team-working skills that map onto the current and future demands of industry.
Through this course, the students would be able to think how design can make a positive difference to everyday life and to design solutions with flair, creativity and enterprise.
Further, between Year 2 and Year 3, the students also have the opportunity to spend an optional year out undertaking either an industrial training placement, leading to the supplementary award of a Diploma in Professional Studies (DPS) or a foreign university placement, leading to a Diploma in International Studies (DintS).
It is preferred that applicants have completed a post A-level pre-degree course prior to entry; BTEC Foundation Diploma or BTEC Extended Diploma etc. However, 'direct entry' applications i e direct from A-level study are also considered.
A typical offer in this instance would be a minimum of 320 tariff points from 3 A-levels, excluding General Studies.
Please note that applicants whose predicted grades fall significantly short of this minimum requirement may not be invited to submit work for assessment.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium and Bangalore Association for Science Education is conducting a three-day workshop for students of high school and above from December 28 to 30, 2012. The number of participants is restricted to 30.
The programme includes discussions, hand-on activities, model demonstrations, movies apart from planetarium projector demonstration. The sessions will be from 4 pm to 7 pm and may extend beyond if the skies are clear.
