Lecture

German course

The Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is offering a combined weekday evening and weekend German language courses from January 6, 2013 at their centre on Cunningham Road. These courses are designed according to the 'Common European Framework of Reference for Languages'.

The courses are conducted in a learner-friendly ambience by highly qualified, trained teachers, using the latest interactive teaching methods and state-of-the-art equipment.

Besides the general language courses, they also have on offer tailor-made courses and inter-cultural workshops to cater to the needs of the corporate sector. These will equip professionals with the confidence to travel to Germany without having to think about etiquette blunders.

Exhibition

Abhimaan Craft Society is holding its arts and crafts exhibition Kala Sammelana till January 6 at Safina Plaza, Infantry Road.

This exhibition, which promotes craft-based goods and aims to help artisans, will have around 50 stalls from 22 states, with unique arts and crafts from remote villages.

Film screening


The screening of the last documentation done on dance guru U S Krishna Rao by critic-historian Ashish Mohan Khokar, will be on at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan on January 6, 10.30 am.

'California Suite'

'California Suite', a play, will be staged at Alliance Francaise on January 6, 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm. It is being done by Playtonic Productions and Indianstage
Performing Arts.

'P S I Don't Love You' by WeMove Theatre will be staged at Alliance Francaise on January 13, 7.30 pm.

'Trupti...'

The theatre group 'Hope Plus' is presenting the Kannada play Trupti @ 60 Rs at K H Kala Soudha, Hanumanthanagar, on December 29 at 7 pm. The writer-director is Shreenath M R. The lead role of the cook is played by Shreenath M R.

Flute duet

Vamshi Academy of Music is presenting Vamshi Laya Vahini, a flute-duet ensemble by B K Anantha Ram and Amit A Nadig, on January 1, 6 pm at Bhoomika Auditorium, Natya Institute of Choreography, Malleswaram.

Classical notes


A Carnatic performance will be held on December 27, 6 pm at Srinivasa Temple, 11th Cross, Malleswaram. On the occasion, a vocal recital will be presented by 'vidushi' Srimathi Jairam. Vocal support will be provided by the students of Srimathi Jairam. Radhika Venkatramana (violin), M P Ramanuja (flute), Bangalore R Ramanath (mridangam) and R P Ravishankar (ghatam) will accompany her.

In concert

The Directorate of Kannada and Culture and Ananya are presenting a Carnatic music concert by S Shankar on December 30, 6.30 pm. He will be accompanied by Vittal Rangan (violin), VS Rajagopal (mridangam) and S V Balakrishna (morsing).The venue is Ananya Sabhangana, 91/2, 4th Main, Malleswaram.

'Parampara'

Rajguru Smruti is presenting a Hindustani musical programme Parampara, at Akhila Havyaka Sabha Bhavan,11th Cross, Malleswaram, on December 30, 6 pm. The programme will include vocal recitals by Pandit Parameshwar Hegde and two of his students, Anagha Hindlekar and Shashikala Bhat. Anagha's CD will also be released on this occasion.

Nostalgic memories

Gaata Rahe Mera Dil, a musical event will held on January 5, 6.30 pm at Chowdiah Hall. The theme is 'Romance in the Golden Era'. This show will take the audience back to songs of the 50s, 60s and 70s sung by Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. The show will have songs rendered from movies such as Mere Sanam, Aradhana, 'Guide', Kati Patang, 'Love in Tokyo' etc.

The singers are Anil Bajpai, Sangeetha Melakar and Vinod Sheshadri from Mumbai,
Nagachandrika Bhat from Bangalore and Nayan Shah from Calicut.

They will be accompanied by the 'Evergreen Orchestra'. Donor passes are available at Landmark, Calypso, Canara Union or at DMS Office, Mavaly (26578926). The

Soothing voiceAs part of Sapthaswara Academy's 104th grand monthly chamber music, a vocal recital by Anushka will be held on December 30, 6.45 pm at the residence of Dr K Gopalan, 4/2, Malleswara Mansion, 6th Main, Malleswaram.

'Triveni Sangama'

Triveni Sangama, a musical night will be held on December 27, 6.15 pm. On the occasion, R A Ramamani will present a Carnatic recital. Prakash Sontakke will be on electric guitar, Carola Gray on drums, accompanied by various artistes.
The event will be held at Hunnime Haadu at Kadumalleswara Temple open air auditorium, Malleswaram.

'Pravachanam'


Subrahmanya Vaibhavam - a Pravachanam in Telugu by Shanmukha Sarma, director, Rushipeetham Charitable Trust will be held from January 1 to 8 at the
Bangalore Gayana Samaja, K R Road.

Carnatic strains

Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira, Banashankari II Stage is presenting a Carnatic classical music extravaganza for nine days from January 1.

The inaugural concert will be rendered by Vishnu Dev Namboothiri.

The other artistes are 'Carnatic Brothers' and team, 'Saralaya Sisters' and team, Madhu Kashyap and A K Jagadeesh and team, 'Akkarai Sisters' and party, 'Kanchana Sisters' and party, N R Harini and N R Sharada, and 'Satur Sisters'.

'Sugama Sangeetha'

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Infosys Foundation will present Sugama Sangeetha by Humayun Harlapur and Shreedevi Bhandarkar at the Indian Institute of World Culture on December 27, 6 pm.

'Dutch Mountains' InCITE Gallery is presenting, 'Dutch Mountains', an exhibition
of the works of Mecanoo Architecten till December 29, from 10 am to 7 pm, at the Gallery No. 422, 1st floor, 9th Main, Banashankari II Stage.

'Tales Of Infinity'

A solo show of the works of Sachin Jaltare titled 'Tales Of Infinity' will be on at Kynkyny Art till January 11. 'Tales of Infinity' depicts the parallel tracks that define human existence and the mysterious planes where they
intersect.

From Mizoram

Sunshine Boulevard is presenting paintings by Mizoram's best known artist, Lara.
Lara paints insightful, life-like images of landscapes, rural portraits and village scenes depicting the lives, culture and traditions of the tribes of his region.

The paintings are on display till December 31, 11 am, to 8.30 pm, at Sunshine Boulevard, 5, 8th Main Road, Koramangala.

DANCE

'Maha Maya'

The Government of Karnataka, Karnataka Sangeeta Nritya Academy and Karnataka Nrityakala Parishat are presenting Maha Maya, a special tribute to mark the birth centenary celebrations of dance guru Professor U S Krishna Rao on January 4, 5 and 6 at Ravindra Kalakshetra and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

The programme will be inaugurated on January 4, 6 pm at Ravindra Kalakshetra.
Professor U S Krishna Rao and Chandrabhaga Devi had set up Maha Maya to impart holistic training in bharatanatyam.

Some of the artistes performing on the occasion are Sonal Mansingh and Pratibha Prahlad, who are students of Krishna Rao.

There will also be performances by Vyjayanthi Kashi and Prateeksha Kashi, Kiran Subramanyam and Sandhya Kiran and many other veteran artistes. The three days will showcase all styles of Indian classical dances such as kuchipudi, kathak, odissi and kathakali.

Bharatanatyam


The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will be presenting a bharatanatyam recital by Aparna Vinod, under the 'Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme', on
December 28, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road.

Diverse cultures

As part of the Bengaluru International Film Festival, the films that will be screened on December 27 are 'Investment', directed by Ratnakar Matkari; 'Cow' by Ursula Meier and Nos Vemos Papa by Lucia Carreas.

These will be screened at Garuda Inox 2.At Garuda Inox 3, 'Beauty from Argentina', 'The Hunter' from Australia, This Must be the Place' from Ireland; Burnohan from Malaysia and 'The Clown' from Brazil will be shown.

At Lido 3, the films that will be screened are 'Remembrance', 'Night #1', 'Red Dog' etc. At Lido 4, Ithra Mathram by K Gopinath and Kaksparsh by Mahesh Manjrekar will be some of the films screened.

'Valley of Tears' by Mayanne Zehil, 'Laptop' by Kaushik Ganguly and 'The Idiot' by Akira Kurasawa will be among the films that will be screened at Sulochana.

At Priyadarshini, one can watch 'Scandal' by Akira Kurasawa, 'Vanella Rising' by Nicolas Winding, 'Identification of a woman' and Devadasu among others.

Alumni meet

Joining hands for a better world

The College of Engineering Trivandrum Alumni Association (CETAAB)organised the CETA global meet at Clarks Exotica recently. The three-day event was based on the theme 'Sustainable Development'.

The programme was inaugurated by Jnanpith Award winner U R Anantha Murthy, who is also the ex-vice chancellor of MG University, Kerala. This was followed by a technical seminar on 'Sustainable Development' with eminent speakers Anurag Behar (Vice-Chancellor, Azim Premji University), Jaisimha (architect), Joss Brooks (Auroville, Chennai) and Raj Kurup from the University of Australia. Arun Narayan, COO, UST Global also spoke on the occasion.

The sessions on sustainable environment were thought-provoking. Few of the well-known alumni like S Krishnakumar (former union minister); Babu Paul IAS; Kuncheria P Isaac, member secretary, All India Council of Technical Education; V Gopakumar, principal, College of Engineering, Trivandrum and Robin D'Cruz, president, CETA, Bangalore Chapter were present at the event. A souvenir was also launched by Anantha Murthy.

The occasion saw a gathering of over 550 engineers and their families from all over the world. Cultural events were presented by the members and guests.
The delegates left for their respective locations, pledging to have sustainable development as a way of life.
