The communicative english department of Jyoti Nivas College recently held its annual screening of short films, made by the final-year media students as part of their vocational course.
The occasion was graced by Poonacha Machaiah, CEO of Qyuki, as well as the proud parents of the budding film-makers.
Four films were showcased, portraying a variety of relevant subjects like the ethical use of euthanasia, organ trafficking, the martyrdom of our soldiers and the molestation of women.
Each of the films used unique techniques of film-making and was based on sensitive issues that the audience could relate to. They were very well-received.
"It feels really good to see the idea you have conceived being presented to an audience on screen. It was an enriching experience. Though we had very little time and worked on a hectic schedule, our team's efforts were successful in bringing out a meaningful message. We learned a lot and are taking back a lot of memories," says Aalankreetaa Roy, one of the film-makers, adding, "this is just the beginning of our journey."
Poonacha Machaiah, the chief guest for the evening, addressed the students, giving them valuable information on the art of film-making.
He spoke on how the core of any film is in its acting and its fate is decided by the quality of the actors' performance.
He also spoke about the individual elements that go into a film — the script, direction and editing.
Surbhi, a student of communicative english, who watched each of the films made by her seniors, says, "I was inspired by the films we watched and I hope that we can match their standards when we do the same."
