It's been 16 years since one saw Lisa Ray in Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali's iconic video Afreen Afreen. Even after all these years Lisa remains a head turner. One has seen Lisa in many avatars — as a model, actress, television host, cancer survivor and an avid blogger — and soon one will read Lisa, the author, as well.
She also happens to be one of the rare person from the glamour industry to have braved the dreaded disease and even spoken about it openly to the media and
people. This has not only changed her outlook towards life but also helped people suffering from the dreaded disease to identify with her.
Interacting with Metrolife, when she visited the City recently, Lisa says that it was all these 'layers' in her that prompted her to start penning the book. "It's a memoir and I really can't talk much about it. But in all these years, in front and off the camera, I started reflecting about myself as a person and found it interesting. I actually came to India when it wasn't that fashionable to come here but then I found my calling. Now I see myself as a completely different individual," she adds.
Lisa started to blog while she was being treated for cancer, and she says that it was a conscious decision. "I wanted to share my experiences
because I wanted to help others and tell them that it's ok to talk about it. In fact, writing the blog was therapeutic in many ways as it helped me gain strength to recover and fight cancer," she adds.
The newly-married Lisa still blushes at the mere mention of her conjugal life with Jason Dehni. She calls this phase of her life as the most memorable one. "Married life is like a celebration. There came a time when everyone kept asking me when I was settling down and I told them that the world will know when it happens. India has been so supportive of everything that I have done and that's exactly why I chose not to be secretive about the wedding or about Jason," she says.
The actress in Lisa is still not dead, she says. But she likes to describe herself as an "accidental actress" and still sticks by it. However, she is looking out for some good scripts and take a call post that. In the meantime, Lisa has lots to do. "Time is a big factor as I am shuttling between two countries now. Right now, I am completing the shoot for Season 3 of 'Top Chef Canada'. I am also collaborating with Satya Paul's design house and will soon present an exclusive line of cocktail saris inspired by the wedding trousseau. There is still a lot more that one can expect from me," she signs off.
