Any movie I act in will flop: Mary Kom
London Olympics bronze medallist M C Mary Kom joked that if she acts in the movie on her life, the movie will flop.
Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is making a biographical film on Mary Kom depicting her struggle to the top. Actor Priyanka Chopra will be enacting the pugilist. "If I act in the movie, it will definitely flop. I am not good in acting, only good in the ring. I don't want it to flop as I want the movie to do well," said the five-time World Champion.
"I am very happy and excited about the film. It's like a dream come true. Never thought a movie would be made on me and on my life history. I am really thankful to the filmmakers," said the mother of two, who met Priyanka a couple of days back in Mumbai to discuss the movie.
Chelsea players mobbed at Japanese Starbucks
Millionaire Chelsea players Petr Cech and Paulo Ferreira popped into a Starbucks for coffee after training at the Club World Cup in Japan on Tuesday and were mobbed as they waited in line.
Defender Ferreira purchased a 'Yokohama Starbucks' coffee mug as a souvenir but goalkeeper Cech opted to save his money as dozens of fans in Chelsea shirts swarmed around them.
Picking up a small size coffee, Cech asked his team mate: "Do you want to drink here or go back (to the hotel)?"
Closely watched by team security, the players patiently signed autographs and posed for photos with fans as they waited before Ferreira nervously replied: "Go back."
Euro Games to launch with separate identity
The new European Games, with the first edition in Azerbaijan's Baku in 2015, will not compete with the Olympic Games for athletes, cash or the spotlight, the head of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Patrick Hickey said.
The EOC announced its plan for a continental Games last week amid some opposition, as Hickey said, from "within the Olympic movement".
The EOC has yet to get all the big Olympic sports federations on board, including the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) which had fixed its calendar up to 2016 long before the new event was announced, swimming and basketball.
The plan is to have 15 of the 28 Olympic sports represented, among them volleyball, boxing, judo and rugby sevens. Three non-Olympic sports, including dance sport and karate, will also be part of the event which will have some 7,000 athletes compared to the 10,000 at the Olympics.
Guinness recognises Messi's goal record
Guinness World Records has recognised FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi for setting a new mark for most goals in a calendar year — 88 and counting.
The 25-year-old Argentine has notched that total with two Spanish league matches left in 2012, surpassing the previous record that Germany's Gerd Mueller had held for 40 years.
Guinness and FIFA issued a statement Thursday saying that Messi's goals this year and those of Mueller in 1972 are part of the official record and there should be no controversy surrounding the Argentine's feat.
Messi has scored 58 goals this year in the Spanish league, 13 in the UEFA Champions League, seven in international friendlies, five in World Cup qualifying matches, three in the King's Cup and two in the Supercup of Spain.
Greek swimmers ask for coal as Christmas gift
Naughty children can expect nothing from Santa Claus but a piece of coal, the tradition goes, but young swimmers in Greece are actually asking for the fuel this Christmas.
Members of the youth academy at Olympiakos Piraeus, struggling to find funds to heat their pool through the winter, have written a letter to Santa Claus asking for coal this Christmas.
"We collected wishes from the families of the swimming division of the club for the festive season and decided to put them into a letter for Santa Claus," swimming team manager Spiros Bitsakis told the club's website.
One of those wishes was to give 'courage and strength to our parents to bring us to training and lots of coal to all of the teams so that all of the closed swimming pools can reopen', he said.
