There's a lot happening during the weekend. Metrolife lists out some of the interesting events

Memorable journey

The band members of MoonArra.MoonArra, the world fusion band comprising Madhuri Jagadeesh, Jagadeesh M R, Prakash Sontakke, Kartik Mani and Wilson Kenneth, completes their three-year journey with a concert-production at Jagriti Theatre, Whitefield on December 8. The 120-minute production will reflect the collaborative spirit of MoonArra beginning with a jazz poet introducing how sound travelled from Africa to India via other continents, showcasing some of the finest voices in Indian classical, jazz and other genres.

There will also be the story of music brought to light by dramatic narration with creative appearances by talented actors, musicians, presenters, writers, dance by classically trained and contemporary dancers.

'Battle of the Bands'

ReinventMusic, a student-run music initiative, will be holding the finals of the inter-school 'Battle of the Bands' competition, at the UB City Amphitheatre on December 8, 4 pm. This initiative is the first-of-its-kind inter-school music competition being held in the City. Eight bands have been selected for the finals, which include 'The Band of Head Start', 'cROCKchets', 'EVOL' and 'Bliss Therapy'. The top three winning teams will be given a chance to perform at Opus and Hard Rock Cafe, and also record a song at Resonance Studios. ReinventMusic was conceived and managed by four high school students of Mallya Aditi International School (MAIS) — Rishab Ramanathan who is the founder, and core committee members Shiv Moola, Siddharth Varkey and Dhruv Shiva Rao.

Soulful music

M S Sheela will present a vocal concert on December 8, 5 pm at Sobha Lakeview Clubhouse, off Sarjapur Outer Ring Road, Bellandur.
Sheela will be accompanied by Nalina Mohan (violin), Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma (mridangam) and Sukkanya Ramgopal (ghatam).

Absolut will present 'Chicane' live on December 9, 8.30 pm at Counterculture, Whitefield

Celebration time

Hard Rock Cafe is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the heritage structure 'Bible Society', where it is housed. The grand finale will be held on December 8, 7 pm. The venue is Hard Rock Cafe, St Mark's Road.

Nostalgic moment

The Harmony International Music Foundation is presenting 'Cadence', an evening of nostalgic Christmas music by the 'Harmony Children's Choir', conducted by Sandra Oberoi, on December 9, 5 pm at Jyoti Nivas

Vocal delight

As a part of T K Rangachari birth centenary celebrations, a vocal concert by will be presented by T N Govindan Namboodiri of Kerala. He will be accompanied by Attukkal Balasubramanyan (violin), Santosh Kumar (mridangam) and Vyasa Vittala (kanjira). The event will be held on December 9, 5.30 pm at Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira, 9th Main Road, Banashankari 2nd Stage

On stage

Riad Mahmood Arts and Education Foundation is presenting Gasha, a play by Indian Ensemble on December 8 (3.30 pm and 7.30 pm) at Alliance Francaise. It is written by Irawati Karnik and conceived and directed by Abhishek Majumdar. It is performed by Adhir Bhat and Sandeep Shikhar. For telebookings, call 9886324733. Picture perfect

The Alliance Francaise de Bangalore, in association with the French Embassy in India and Gallery Sumukha, is holding the opening of 'The World Upside Down' gravity defying photographs by French conceptual artist Philippe Ramette from December 8, 7 pm to December 20 at Gallery Sumukha, 24/10 BTS Depot Road, Wilson Garden. The timing is from 10.30 am to 6 pm.

Exhibition

The 'Srishti GradShow 2012' will be held at Srishti School of Art Design and Technology, Yelahanka New Town, till December 10. As part of the exhibition, they have workshops allowing participants to interact with forgotten arts like Kalighat painting and Chhau Dance. Kalam Patua, the lone crusader of a lost art form and the father of new Kalighat painting and Chhau artistes from Purulia in West Bengal, will be present at the exhibition. In 'Camera Obscura', one can make their own pinhole camera and take photographs on 35mm film and get it developed or one can join the mask-making team or build light sensitive bots.

'Samyoga'

Nrityagram's Surupa Sen and Bijayini Satpathy will present a dance programme, Samyoga, on December 9, 6.30 pm at Jagriti Theatre, Ramagondanahalli, Varthur Road, Whitefield. Choreographed by Surupa Sen, Samyoga has a live music score composed by Pandit Raghunath Panigrahi.

'Now and When'


'Now and When', a 3D exhibition featuring spectacular architectural visions of Australia's potential urban future in 2050 and beyond, by leading Australian architects, designers and urban planners, will be on display from December 9 to 14, from 10 am to 6 pm at CEMA Gallery, Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, Yelahanka New Town.
'Now and When' is presented by Australian Institute of Architects in partnership with India Design Forum as part of 'Oz Fest', the biggest Australian cultural festival ever staged in India.

'Tales of Kutty'

'Tales of Kutty', a play in English and Tamil, will be held on December 8 and 9, between 3 pm and 6 pm at 'The Basement', No 34, Eagle Ridge, Begur Road. It is directed by Ashwini Kumar Chakre and written by Chanakya Vyas.

'Aakar'

Magnitude Gallery, 3rd Block Jayanagar, is presenting Aakar, original paintings in the genre of art based on architectural wonders till December 31.

Talents galore

Ananya is presenting a three-day festival of young talents on December 8 and 9, from 6 pm onwards at Ananaya Sabhangana, 91/2, 4th Main, Malleswaram. On December 8, there will be vocal recitals by Surabhi Gopal, Arundhati Krishnan, accompanied by Aditi Krishnaprakash (violin) and R Adamya (mridangam).

On December 9, there will be vocal recitals by Meghna Madhusudan and Ashwini Satish. The programme is supported by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.

'Sannidhi'

The Kala Premi Foundation will present Sannidhi, a unique concert and multimedia presentation, on the temples of Karnataka by Jayanthi Umesh (vocal), Nagaraj Mandya (violin), Raghu Bhagavat (mridangam), Bhargava Halambi (khanjira) on December 8, 6 pm at Seva Sadan auditorium, 14th Cross, Malleswaram.

Contemporary art

Gallery Time and Space, along with Alila Bangalore, is exhibiting paintings and sculptures of promising artists Akhil Chandra Das (sculptures), Girish Kulkarni, Partha Shaw, Prasanna Kumar Romicon Revola (sculptures) till December 9. The venue is Alila Bangalore Hotel and Residence. The artists will showcase their best dynamic ethos of contemporary art which will be based on the 'Brush and Metal' theme to captivate all the art lovers.

'Horizon series'


The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), in collaboration with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, will be presenting Carnatic devotional bhajans under the 'Horizon Series' on December 8, 6.30 pm at the Khincha Auditorium, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Race Course Road. It will feature Chennai Shri Bhajan Ravi and troupe.
