Q I am 25 years old. I don't enjoy applying oil on my hair as it starts to itch and that continues even after washing my hair. This has led to severe hair loss and hair thinning. I use a popular hair fall control shampoo and conditioner once a week. Please help.

A Does the problem occur on applying any oil? You could apply warm olive oil and see if there is a difference. You can also apply a non-oily herbal hair tonic, like Shatone, daily on the scalp and leave it on. Since there is itching, you should consult a dermatologist to ensure that there is no scalp condition like seborrheic dermatitis, which happens due to excessive oiliness of the scalp. Hair loss can also occur due to excessive oiliness of the scalp. Take two tablespoons vinegar and massage it lightly on the scalp, about 15 minutes before washing the hair. Use very little quantity of a mild herbal shampoo.
Dilute with water and then apply. After shampoo, apply very little leave-on conditioner or hair serum on the hair. Avoid applying it on the scalp and roots of the hair. Or, mix some water with a creamy hair conditioner and put it in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the hair. Then comb the hair, so that it spreads through the hair. Avoid applying it on the scalp.
