Financial assistance for meritorious students
Prerana, a non-governmental organisation, whose objective is to financially assist meritorious students, is conducting a 'Nurture Merit Test' for those students, who are studying in Class X in Government/ Corporation/ Aided high schools in Bangalore, who have scored more than 80 per cent in Class IX and come from economically weak families. The test is on December 9, 2012 from 10 am to 1.30 pm in different centres.

Reach for the stars challenge
The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Strathclyde is going to launch 'Reach for the stars challenge India' again in 2013.
The prize is a month-long all expense paid trip to Scotland. The winners will join the Scottish School, meet astronauts and like-minded enthusiasts, design and produce a product, act as consultants to a Scottish company and find out about the things that Strathclyde Engineering does.
Working in teams of two, students will be asked to come up with an innovative idea on a set theme and present it in a three-minute You Tube video within 24 hour of the challenge being set.
Registration for the competition has started and will close on February 22, 2013. The challenge will be released on March 2, 2012 and presentation must be uploaded by March 3, 9 am. The five final teams will be announced on March 12, 2013.
The challenge is open to all students of engineering in India.

Admissions to ME/MArch courses
Applications are invited from eligible candidates to fill a few vacant seats of ME/MArch courses at the Department of Computer Science of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering and Department of Architecture offered by University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, (UVCE), Bangalore.
Applications can be collected from the office of the principal, UVCE and submitted on or before December 15, 2012 along with photo copies of all the BE /BArch marks cards (I to VII or X Sem) and GATE or PGCET score cards if any. Candidates who have not appeared for GATE or PGCET are also eligible to apply. Internal assessment marks will not be considered for merit list. Allotment of seats is done by considering the vacant seats as under General Merit.
Fees to be paid is Rs.32, 840 for General Merit, Rs.8450 for SC/ ST/ Cat- I/ Economically weaker section. The fee and all the original documents are to be submitted to the concerned departments on December 19, 2012.
Scholarships for Indian students
Southampton Management School at UK's University of Southampton is offering two scholarships worth £5000 each to Indian students for the full-time AMBA accredited MBA programme starting September 2013.
The University of Southampton full-time MBA course is of one-year duration.Applicants who wish to apply for the scholarships are required to have at least four years of work experience and be at least 26 years old.
English language requirements are at IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any component, or equivalent and candidates must be academically excellent. The fee for the programme is £23,500 and the deadline to apply for the full-time MBA scholarships is January 30, 2013. Swinburne scholarships
Talented Indian students are invited to apply for a new scholarship programme announced by Swinburne University of Technology. The new merit-based scholarships, up to the value of AU$6000, will be offered to students for study in a range of pathway, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Swinburne in 2013.
These include the Victoria India Doctoral scholarships offered in conjunction with the Victorian Government, and Australia-India Strategic Research Fund fellowships, funded by the governments of Australia and India.
The prestigious Victoria India Doctoral Scholarship includes a full tuition fee waiver plus a scholarship grant of AUD$90,000. Applications for the Swinburne Pathways Academic Scholarship, Swinburne Leadership Scholarship and Swinburne Postgraduate Scholarship are currently open for study in 2013. Admissions to PhD programmes
BITS Pilani is offering admissions to PhD programmes at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad campuses for the second semester 2012-13 in the following disciplines : Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Economics and Finance, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Management, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Pharmacy, Physics, Languages and Humanities and interdisciplinary areas such as : Biotechnology, Energy, Environment, Robotics, Nano-science and Nano-technology, Water Management, Public Health etc.
Qualification: ME/M Pharm/MBA/ MPhil of BITS or its equivalent with a minimum of 60 per cent aggregate.
Candidates with MSc/ BE / BPharm or an equivalent degree with a minimum of 60 per cent aggregate may also be considered for PhD admission. For PhD programmes in Languages and Humanities, candidates with MA and with minimum of 55 per cent aggregate may also be considered.

XLRI to organise National HR Conference
XLRI will host the 6th National HR Conference on January 19 and 20, 2013 in Jamshedpur. The theme for this year's conference is "Emerging Trends in Talent Management".
