'It's fun taking risks'
From her debut with the 2000 film 'Refugee' to her latest release Talaash,
Kareena Kapoor has come a long way in her decade-long career.
The actress says she picks different kinds of roles as she prefers taking risks when it comes to choosing films. Be it a masala film like 'Bodyguard' or a women-centric movie like 'Heroine', Kareena has it all in her kitty. The 32-year-old Bollywood A-lister says it is her duty as an actress to dole out a variety of films for her fans.
"It is the duty of an actor to try and pick up different roles, be a little brave about the whole thing. Sometimes, films will work and sometimes they won't. It's fun taking risks. I just can't just keep looking pretty and doing a song-and-dance film," Kareena says.
The actress adds that people had asked her not to play Riana Briganza in Shakun Batra's Ekk Main Aur Ekk Tu earlier this year, as the film was slightly unconventional. "When I was doing Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, everyone said it is slightly non-commercial, since the boy doesn't get the girl in the end. I only did the film because people were saying that. I told Shakun that if you change the end of this movie, I'm not doing it.
That was me. I wanted to do Riana Briganza and wanted my year to end with something totally bizarre like Talaash. I'm happy with both," states Kareena.
This year has been quite colourful for the actress. While in the Aamir Khan-starrer Talaash, she plays a prostitute, Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Heroine' had her star as a Bollywood actress.
Kareena also appeared as an ISI agent in 'Agent Vinod' and will be next seen in a item number in Dabangg 2. "I always try to balance the mass-oriented films with the other kinds. My fans love to see me in commercial stuff as well — for that there is the item song Fevicol Se that I have done for Dabangg 2.
It's nice to do a role like Rosie in Talaash — who is so sensitive — and then something like this song. People should see that I am trying to do different things and not just confidently doing my own thing or repeating the same," she sums up.
A surprise visit to the sets
Southern super star Ram Charan and Priyanka Chopra are both busy shooting for Zanjeer, a remake of the hit film. The film's current Hyderabad schedule has just gone on floors and the actors are having a great time on the sets. In fact, recently mega-star Chiranjeevi turned up on the sets of the movie, surprising the cast and crew.
The dynamic actor received the warmest welcome on the sets and his son, Ram
Charan could not stop gushing about the incident. Chiranjeevi is very happy with the way the film has been shaping up and wanted to specially come by and show his support. The already vibrant energy on the sets was boosted to another level altogether with his visit.
Apparently, he spent his time on the sets on a long session of chit-chat and film discussion. As soon as it was learnt that the super star was in the arena, there were immediate arrangements of some of the best food from Hyderabad and the entire team on the set feasted on a lavish spread.
Adapted for Indian television
Anil Kapoor will soon be going ahead with the Indian adaptation of the show '24', which is an American television series.
Abhinay Deol will direct the serial, while Rensil D'Silva will pen the Indian version.
'24' takes a gigantic leap from the existing crime-thrillers on Indian television, with a unique real-time narration format providing action, thrill, suspense, drama and the exhilaration of solving complex cases in 24 hours.
The show is slated to go on air in the summer of 2013. The show catapulted Anil Kapoor to international fame as he played the roleof Omar Hassan in Season
8. In the Indian adaption, he plays the lead role, taking on complex assignments that he resolves in twenty four hours.
Anil says, "'24' was my destiny and the second I was offered to play a role in the
international series, I had made up my mind to bring this show to India. In less than a year, I bought the rights to produce an Indian version." It will air on Colors.
Minimum make up for Rani
With realistic cinema gaining popularity, more and more Bollywood heroines are shunning makeup to make their characters believable. Simply clad in a sari, Rani Mukerji is already looking like a million bucks in the Aamir Khan-starrer Talaash. What's interestingly is that the Bong bombshell is facing the camera with minimal makeup. While Bollywood's glam dolls are more about fantasy and appeal, many agree that shunning the shield of makeup is a bold move by the divas.
