'I look at figures in retrospect'

These days, a film is called a success only if it crosses the much-hyped Rs 100-crore mark.

But actor Aamir Khan, for one, does not hold with this philosophy. He feels that numbers
can be deceptive and this elite figure isn't a true measure of how well a film is made or received by the audience.

Three of Aamir's films — '3 Idiots', Ghajini and Fanaa — have reportedly earned over Rs 350 crore, Rs 150 crore, and Rs 100 crore respectively, scaling the touchstone of
success.

Yet he does not believe in the number game. "A large number of people might see the film because a star is there.

Numbers can be deceptive. To me, success is when we, as a creative team, sit together to watch a film before it releases and feel that we have succeeded in making what we set out to do.

If the team feels we have come close, it's the first sign of success," Aamir explains.

"I have never looked at figures. I am the last person to look at figures at the
outset. I look at them in retrospect as they help me gauge how well a film of
mine has been received.

It is one of the yard sticks. I use them to understand how my film has fared, how people have reacted to it," he adds.

Aamir feels even though a film may earn a lot of money at the Box Office,
there are chances that not many people may like it.

"Let's say a film had done big business — but when you ask people how did you like the film, only six or seven people out of ten say it was okay.

Then, is it a successful film? If another film has done half the business and you ask people how they like it and eight to nine out of ten do, then?" he questions.

The 47-year-old actor-producer feels that film-making is a team effort and the
credit for the success of a film should not entirely be given to actors but to the whole team.

"Film-making is tough. The director and writer play important parts but along with that, there is the cameraman, the sound engineer, the song composer, lyrics writer, actors and many others.

So, when a film does well, it is the result of this team doing good work. The balance is not in the hands of the actors alone," Aamir points out.

A warning for Priyanka

Priyanka Chopra is the queen of remakes — after Don and Agneepath, the actress is now working in Zanjeer.

But Farhan Akhtar has warned the actress about getting typecast by doing too many remakes. Farhan directed Priyanka in the remake of the 1978 film, Don and then, the 30-year-old actress went on to star in the new version of 1990 film, Agneepath opposite Hrithik Roshan.

Farhan took to Twitter to remind the actress about her fondness for the remakes of Amitabh Bachchan starrers. "Priyanka Chopra, do you realise that this is the third official remake of Amitabh Bachchan you are in? Be careful you don't get typecast," Farhan tweeted.

The Zanjeer remake is being produced by Amit Mehra, who is the son of the original director Prakash Mehra. The 1973 film starred Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya in the lead roles.

Apoorva Lakhia is helming the new film, which also stars southern star Ram Charan Teja. Priyanka is currently in Hyderabad for the shooting of the film.

"In Hyderabad for Zanjeer. Starting a new film always makes me nervous,"
she tweeted.

'I always loved fast cars'

Taking his passion for racing to the next level, actor Kunal Kapoor has decided to pursue his hobby as a professional sport. The 35-year-old actor, who is a huge F1 and rally fan, is training under a coach and will be competing at the National Rally Championship next year.

"I always loved fast cars, but I realised that I needed to get off the road to test my limits — otherwise, I would be endangering my life as well as the lives of others. The adrenaline rush I get when I am behind the wheel is just something else! That is when I got into rally driving, a year and a half back," Kunal explains.

"My coach wants me to compete in the nationals. It is a skill that needs to be honed as you need to understand your car, the terrain you are driving on — be it slush or mountains — and develop the stamina needed to focus on long hours of driving," he adds.

Fresh face for the flick

Actor-turned-director Deepak Tijori, currently busy finalising the cast for his film 'Dare You', says it will go on floors in the middle of next month and that he is targetting a Holi
release. Deepak, who earlier directed 'Oops!' and Fareb, adds that they are also
scouting for the right location. "Since it's a college story, we are looking at
various college campuses. We might shoot the entire film either in Mumbai or Pune," he says.

He adds, "We are planning to release the film on Holi. So hopefully, if we wrap up our shooting in time, then the film might release during the festive occasion of Holi in 2013."
The suspense thriller is being co-produced by Denis Selarka and Mehul Simaria.

Newcomer Alisha has been signed to play the leading lady in the film. "I didn't want to cast any known person for the role. The script demanded a fresh face and I felt
people would easily relate to her.

It's a bold concept and I am sure Alisha will pull off the role well," insists Deepak. Alisha has signed a three-film deal with the same banner. The film narrates the journey of Rani
Diwan — her rise from an innocent college girl into an icon.
