BASE's training programme for NEET 2013
BASE has announced a new programme to train students for NEET 2013. NEET Intensive is an intense classroom programme for students, currently in Class XII / PU II, appearing for NEET 2013. The focus of the programme is to train students to analyse multiple choice questions, learn alternate methods of answering and practice taking tests, thereby enhancing their performance abilities. This weekend classes programme will commence from November 17, 2012 and go on till end of February 2013. There will be extensive practice after the board exams during April 2013.

Education Ireland fair
Education Ireland, the government organisation responsible for the development and growth of Ireland's education sector in world markets, recently announced a three-city student recruitment fair to be held across Bangalore, New Delhi and Mumbai between November 22 and December 1, 2012. Each student fair will see participation from over 60 delegates including provosts and deans from 16 leading list of Institutes of Technology,
Government Regulated Private Colleges amongst others from Ireland.
The fair will aim to showcase the very best in Irish education from laying emphasis on what makes Ireland's worldwide reputation for delivering high quality education and how it is built on the solid foundation of commitment to excellence. Pertinent topics such as university-industry linkage through research and business collaborations, scholarships, ease of visa, stay back options, job security, and many other topics will be addressed in the three cities by domain experts from various disciplines.
A number of exciting scholarship programmes exclusively designed for Indian students will be announced and launched at all the fairs. ETL workshop for teachers
To meet the growing demand of English language and related soft skills, British Council will conduct a series of training workshops on task based learning, designing materials and courses, using stories, songs and pictures in the classroom, teaching pronunciation, continuing your professional development, using learn English booklets and teaching vocabulary. These workshops are aimed at teachers from the middle and secondary sections of the school and higher education sectors in India. The aim of the sessions is to equip teachers with effective methods, resources, practical ideas and activities that they can implement in their own classroom situations.
The workshops have been developed, complete with materials, and certified by the British Council. Certificate of Participation will be provided to all participants attending the workshop. The workshop will be held on November 23, 2012 at British Library, 23, Kasturba Road Cross, Bangalore - 560001. Registration fee per participant: Rs.1000 for Library institutional members and Rs.1500 for non-member institutions. The course fee is inclusive of all training materials, trainer costs, refreshments and stationery.
Symposium on CPD
The Regional Institute of English South India Bangalore and the British Council will jointly organise a one-day symposium on the theme 'Continuing Professional Development of Teachers' on November 23.
The symposium will raise awareness about what Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is for teachers and how it can contribute to quality in the classroom. It will also illustrate how CPD can work in practice using a variety of different approaches, tools and techniques. The main objective is to engage policy makers and educational leaders in a debate about how they can introduce and / or embed CPD within their contexts
The CPD Symposium will also provide a platform and focus for the participants to share their own professional development journeys as well as the lessons they have learned along the way. The symposium will feature the launch of a book called Continuing Professional Development: Lessons from India.
Prof Dr Amritavalli from the English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad will deliver the key note address. Rod Bolitho, Academic Director of Norwich Institute of Language Education (NILE), UK will talk about 'Projects and Programmes: Contemporary Experience in ELT Change Management'. Dr N S Prabhu, formerly, Professor, National University of Singapore will interact with the audience. Astronomy course
A short duration, five-days-a-week, evening course in basic Astronomy titled, "General Astronomy" will be conducted at M P Birla Institute of Fundamental Research (MPBIFR), Bangalore from January 7 to 22, 2013. This course is open to all with no restrictions on age or educational background. The classes will be held from 5 pm to 6.30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The syllabus includes the basics of astronomical concepts like identification of constellations, measurement of brightness and distances of stars, Sun and solar system, beginning of the Universe and so on. Interactive lectures for all class room sessions are delivered at the premises of the Institute. The medium of instruction will be English.
