The festival of lights brings with it a lot happiness, optimism as well as a wide array of gifts. The gifts that people exchange today have undergone considerable change — they include gift coupons available at various stores, online shopping vouchers and innovative gift hampers as well.

Evidently, Bangaloreans prefer to keep it smart this festive season.
They are spoilt for choice and many try to be as creative as possible when it comes to giving gifts during Deepavali.

"Last year, I had gifted some custom-made chocolates to my friends and family members. I wrote small messages on each of the gift boxes. The store at which I had placed the order was very creative with packing them. Each box brought a smile to whomever I gifted it to. This year, I plan to gift something unique too," says Anuja, a homemaker.

Malls and stores are flooded with funky and innovative items like bright cushion covers with pictures of popular pop and rock artistes printed on them, funky folders and diaries.
Apart from these, there are various types of confectionary items which are on display at most supermarkets and malls.

Assorted biscuits, cookies and chocolates — along with the usual choices like dry fruits packed in festive boxes and tins — are also part of the festive season.
While many prefer to do something different, others want to keep it traditional and simple.

"Clothes and gift boxes are something that we present every year to our relatives and friends. The gift hampers available now are very well-packed and suit our needs. These gifts hampers differ from year to year and we have a lot to choose from. Right from the traditional dry fruits and sweets to the latest ones available in the market, they are very interesting. They are so colourful and well-packaged that they attract customers almost immediately," says Manas, a businessman.

The gift hampers this year not only consist of sweets — they also have diyas, murals of Lakshmi and Ganesh. Packed in tin boxes and tied with ribbons and bows, they
definitely make for a very attractive present.

Many youngster say that they prefer to present gift coupons to their friends and relatives, rather than gift hampers.

"Presenting gift coupons, I feel, is a good idea as they leave the choice with the person concerned. These coupons make it easier for people who are shopping for presents — not everyone likes what you gift, so it's best if you leave the choice with them," says Pawan, a student.

With a wide variety of gifts available during the festive season, Bangaloreans are all set to get creative with their gifts this Deepavali.
