Manam koththi paravai
Tamil (U/A)
Cast: Sivakarthikeyan,
Aadmiya, Illavarasu, Soori, Ravi mariya, Singam Puli,
Srinath
Director: S Ezhil
Back after a hiatus, director Ezhil, who has several hits under his belt, tries his hand at rustic romance. Ezhil had a cracker of a concept to exploit, but he fails in the portrayal of a girl kidnapped and packed off with her besotted lover by his buddies.
Even as one warms up to a one-sided romance, Ezhil turns Manam Koththi Paravai into a mundane comedy. The film is packed with a platoon of comedians playing to the house in full zest.
With a chatterbox in Sivakarthikeyan, the director just manages a few feeble guffaws rather than a strong, sensitive narrative.
Manam Koththi Paravai turns pedestrian as the hero's friends try to lighten the proceedings with their tomfoolery.
As for the no-great-shakes story, it centres around Kannan, a carefree lad, who is head over heels in love with his neighbour Revathy, and thinks that she too is reciprocating, even as she shrugs off his cupid inclinations.
With her consenting to wed a boy her family has arranged for her, Kannan's friends pack off the pair to Kerala backwaters, hoping the girl would have a change of heart.
How things pan out and whether the girl's rakish parents pound the pesky pals form the rest of the story. Watch it if you are game for some humdrum humour.
Siva does shine while Aadmiya too sizzles as a simple gal.
