The International Animation Day 2012', held at the Chowdiah Hall on Sunday, had a medley of programmes as well as a colourful display of art and craft. The programme had students and artistes from all over the City participating in it.
Painting, clay-modelling, face-painting, flip book design competition, animation, quiz and other stage events were conducted on the occasion. Experts from the field of animation also spoke about the emerging animation industry and gave an insight into the subject.
While panel discussions and film screenings were held on one side, there was a mini- fair, which had various kinds of art and craft products as well as goodies, on sale. Those interested could also take part in the workshops which were being conducted on the spot.
Ashwini, one of the participants of the art and craft exhibition, displayed her beautiful showpieces which were made of paper. "This art is called quilling and I have displayed many items like thumb puppets, cars, small diaries, bookmarks etc. Since they look very interesting, many people are taking part in the workshop.
These items are made out of paper which is rolled. This is the first time that I am exhibiting these," says Ashwini.
Ramesh, one of the organisers, informs that although the turnout was not great due to the holiday weekend, around 200 students participated in various kinds of competitions and programmes.
"We also conducted a screening of animated films and many students registered for it. Some professionals had also taken part in it and overall, we have received a good response. It could have been better if this was not a festive week," he adds.
The painting exhibition had works done in animation style by many artistes. Artiste D Majumdar exhibited her collection which was based on emotions and other subjects. Emotions like tolerance, repentance, contemplation, bond between a mother and her child etc were showcased in a unique style.
An artiste displayed the Indian landscape and people of the country. Most of the works were done in the patch-work style so as to give a 3D effect. Karthik, a student, who was one of the participants, informs that the panel discussion and lectures helped him a lot and cleared the doubts he had about animation as a profession.
