Pop-rock romance
The intriguingly named band 'You Me At Six' are not huge household names yet, but they have a interesting pop-rock profile. Formed in 2004, the group of teenagers rose to fame in 2008 with the success of their debut album, 'Take Off Your Colours'. The band released their second studio album, titled 'Hold Me Down' during the beginning of 2010.
With the third album, 'Sinners Never Sleep', they have matured and progressed. The opening song Loverboy has an anthemic sing-along chorus and catchy guitar riffs which hooks you in — a formula which brought them early success. Jaws on the Floor is a typical break-up song with sardonic lines such as "such a pretty thing, so much prettier without me" — simple and infectious rhythm parts with catchy lyrics and lead parts.
In Bite My Tongue (featuring Oliver Sykes), the band goes into heavy territory. It is the autobiographical song of the band's near break up. With its catchy chords of the chorus and vengeful emotion, it is designed to be a chart topper. No One Does It Better is a soft, introspective and delicate track, while Little Death is a rather mediocre track with raspy vocals. Crash is a soft, slow and a big ballad of the band.
It is a song about growing apart from someone and longing to have them back. Time is money is the heaviest and most hardcore song the band has ever written. It is less pop-rock and more hardcore. To offset their heavy side, there is a soft tender ballad, Little bit of truth, with an uplifting, sing-along worthy chorus. The dilemma is a fun, upbeat ballad about the highs and lows of a relationship. The addition of trumpets doesn't really add anything much.
The album finishes with a soft and peaceful song, When we were younger. With over six minutes, it is the longest track on the album in which the band candidly reflects on the issues of the past.
