'Being from a film family helps'
Alia Bhatt — touted to be tinsel town's next big thing — is riding high on the success of her latest film, 'Student of the Year', right now. The 19-year-old actress, who is Mahesh Bhatt's younger daughter, admits that she always believed she would prove that Karan Johar's confidence in newcomers was the right decision. Alia stars along with Siddharth Malhotra, a former model, and Varun Dhawan, son of director David Dhawan, in the movie. All three are fresh faces on the screen.
"He (Johar) has worked with the best in the industry, while neither of us had ever faced the camera before. I have to ensure that he is not let down.
There is a pressure of different kind. We all want to make the audience happy as once they accept you, all noises die down," she says.
Alia says that Karan, who is working with the newcomers for the first time, was patient with them.
"I was very nervous working with Karan. I couldn't ever imagine that he would be so patient with us. He has worked with the best people and we used to give so many takes.
He understood that we were newcomers and had to be guided."
The actress admits that being a star kid helps initially but says that ultimately, it all comes down to talent. "Being from a film family helps because you get a good platform and recognition.
However, many people don't understand that at the end of the day, I am an individual performing in front of the camera and the Bhatt lineage doesn't make any difference whatsoever," she explains.
Alia adds that her director father is very excited about her debut film. "He is the most excited of the lot. He has been sharing feedback with me on a constant basis. Whenever he likes something, he tells me," she smiles.
'The mindset has to change'
Aiyyaa — Rani Mukerji's latest — might not have done so well at the box office or with the critics but what really irks the actress is that it has been called a comeback film. After all, it's been a while since she was last seen on the big screen, along with Vidya Balan in 'No One Killed Jessica'.
But the actress dismisses these statements, saying that she would never call the flick a 'comeback'.
In fact, she claims that although she doesn't do too many movies, that doesn't mean she is slipping out of the industry.
"Aamir (Khan) does one film a year but you don't go around asking him whether Talaash is his comeback film. I have two releases within a period of a year and a half. The thing is, people in the industry feel that it's okay for an actor to take time to prepare for his next — but the same standards don't apply to an actress. I believe somewhere, the prevalent mindset has to change," she says.
A chance to work with a veteran
Apparently, Jackky Bhagnani had quite a nice time shooting with Kirron Kher on the sets of his upcoming movie Ajab Gazabb Love. The veteran actress plays his mother in the movie and it seems that he quite enjoyed the opportunity for working with her.
"Every actor has a top-10 list of actors that they wish to work with someday. I've got the opportunity to work with two people on mine — and that's Rishi ji (Rishi Kapoor) and Kirron ji (Kirron Kher), and it's been a fantastic experience," says the actor.
Kirron Kher portrays the character of a rich lady, who needs to pretend to be poor for the sake of her son. Jackky can't stop raving about her perfect comic timing. "She's a powerhouse of an actor. She can get you into splits within seconds, no matter what frame of mind you are in. There were times when I would be preparing for an emotional scene and would completely get into the zone and in a jiffy, Kirron ji would totally crack me up on the sets," he shares. Ask him what it was like playing Kirron's son and he replied, "Oh, it was great! I've grown up in front of Kirron ji — so, the emotion came very naturally to me. She's also a very helpful actor to work with. I feel when you work with such good actors, your performance also betters."
Taking on James Bond!
There's a lot of talk in the film fraternity and among movie buffs about Anurag Kashyap's latest production — Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. The movie, which the director-cum-producer has described as a "gentle comedy", is about a family who is thrown into disarray when one of its crucial members dies — and takes with him to the grave the recipe for his famous chicken Khurana, which the family has been minting money for years.
And apparently, Kunal Kapoor — who stars in the movie — has tried out something different with one of the songs in the film.
The song, which is called Motorwale, is unique because it picturises Kunal taking on James Bond. The song has been conceptualised by Anurag Kashyap and directed by debutant Sameer Sharma.
The movie is jointly produced by Anurag Kashyap and UTV Spotboy. Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana releases on November 2.
