Hurdles in the path of love
Joining the bandwagon of love stories, Gowri Puthra looks at marriage in a different manner. The movie, directed by Manjunath Maskalmatti, portrays the story of a young man who is not able to get married. Calling it a 'travelling' love story, the director tells Metrolife that the film focusses on the various obstacles the hero faces on his journey to get married to his lady love.
"We often see young couples of today eloping and lying to their parents or to each other in order to get married. The funny part is that when the protagonist in this movie is completely honest and wants to get married, he is unable to do that. His friends and circumstances help him overcome the obstacles," he adds.
There were reports of the film being a remake of the Tamil film, Raman Thediya Seethe. Manjunath states that while he has bought the re-making rights of the film, he has made many changes in the script and the picturisation.
The movie boasts of a huge star cast including Nikitha Tukral, Akshay, Niveditha, Nagshekhar, Roopika and Manasi. Each character has a distinct on-screen personality. "Nikitha plays an affluent girl in this film, who has her own reservations about marriage after the loss of her father. Even Manasi plays an interesting role, of that of a cop, who is tough on the outside but very orthodox when it comes to family matters," he says.
Director Nagshekhar, who is a friend of Manjunath, plays an important role in the film. "He has played a number of roles in front of the camera. He did this film only for me," he says.
When asked if Nagashekhar, who has directed films like 'Sanju Weds Geetha', gave him tips on direction, Manjunath says, "He has inspired and encouraged me to take a step forward to shoot the film. He guided me constantly in terms of direction."
The music for the film is directed by Milan Dharmasen.
There are four songs in the film, "All the four songs in the film are shot in various locations like Bhatkal, Honnavar and Hiriyur. Special effects in terms of graphics have been added."
The film is scheduled to release later next month.

One for the environment
Save trees, preserve your environment and promote education among children — these are some of the things that G V Rama Rao has tried to promote through his second directorial venture Ashakiranagalu. The audio release of the film was held in the City recently.
The film is based on many social issues and stars Jagadish Raj and Duniya Rashmi in the lead. Making a comeback through this film, Rashmi plays the role of a teacher. "I simply couldn't say no to the film as it not only has a strong role to offer but the movie, on the whole, is educative and entertaining," she adds.
Literary personality Doddarange Gowda has penned a special song for this film. "Director G V Rama Rao approached me to write a song about environment conservation. Even as a child, I have felt very strongly about the environment.
So I took up the offer and gave the song to him in two or three days' time. But what made me feel really proud and happy was when the director told me that for the picturisation of the song, the team planted more than 1,000 saplings.
People should really encourage such movies and even learn from what the team has to offer," says Doddarange Gowda.
Rama Rao, who has earlier directed Idhre Gopi Bidre Papi, says that the film also talks a lot about today's youth. "They are the future of the nation and education plays a huge role in moulding them.
They are the hope for tomorrow, hence we have titled the movie Ashakiranagalu," he adds. Jagadish is the hero of this film.

A sparkling debut
Ganesh Venkatraman is an actor whose career seems to be steadily on the rise. Having already acted alongside top heroines of the industry — like Trisha (in Abhiyum Naanum and Aakasamantha) and Anushka (in Damarukkam) — the actor has now been signed on to star opposite Shriya in a Tamil-Kannada bilingual titled Chandra.
Interestingly, this will also be Ganesh's debut in the Kannada film industry.
The movie deals with the life of a last-generation princess (essayed by Shriya) and the love story has two heroes.
Popular Kannada actor Prem is one of these and Ganesh, who plays a charming and suave USA-based NRI, is another. About selecting Ganesh, award-winning film-maker Roopa Iyer says, "I wanted someone who was tall and handsome and also a powerhouse of an actor, for that particular US-based character, who would also be Shriya's pair.
Ganesh fitted the role to a 'T' — exactly what I had conceived in my mind." The film will be shot in America as well, as a part of the story unfolds there.
Ganesh is equally thrilled about his new avatar! The former Gladrags Mr India has been chosen to be the face of 'Coimbatore Fashion Week', the first ever high-profile fashion event in the cotton city.
Ganesh says, "I am really excited about Chandra! When Roopa narrated the script, it was fascinating and I immediately gave my nod." Ganesh's upcoming releases are Pani Thuli (in Tamil) in July and Damarukkam (in Telugu) with Anushka and Nagarjun in August.
