Who says the rain always plays spoilsport? For those who recently attended the third season of the Equestrian Premier League at the Embassy International Riding School, the bout of rainfall didn't deter their spirits in the least.
Assembled to catch all the action of talented riders from across the City, the invitees were at first disappointed when the league was called off due to rain. But the entertainment factor kept spirits high.
The stage was set and under the shelter, the evening kickstarted with stand-up comedian Sundeep Rao.
Soon enough, the ramp opened up for a fashion show, themed around horses. Choreographed by Prasad Bidapa, the first sequence had male models show off saddles in a unique way. "You may not have seen the horses tonight but you will surely see the studs," he jokes.
This was followed by a line-up of brands which showcased many things, ranging from silver and gold jewellery to exquisite sherwanis and grand lehengas.
Kannada actress Soundarya was the showstopper for the night. She wore a red and white lehenga with bold motifs. "I loved the showstopper outfit. It fit really well and the design was very unique indeed," expresses Soundarya.
Risheeka Singh, Aindrita Ray and Diganth also added to the starry presence off the ramp.
Silva Storai, who runs the riding school, says that looking at the popularity that the Equestrian Premier League is gaining in the City, the team decided to pack in a lot of entertainment as well.
Though the sport is considered to be for the elite, Silva says, "Through this riding school, we are trying to make it as accessible as possible to people. We want to provide some of the best riders in the country with a platform to perform and compete."
Just as the fashion show concluded, so did the rain — giving some relief to the
riders. And Silva surprised everyone by ensuring that the crowd did get to see a bit of show jumping. Soon enough, the horses came out with their riders and the crowd was pleased to see the riding back on track.
Beth, an expat who was their with her children, says, "At first we were a little disappointed that there was not going to be any riding. But now, it's nice to see that all was not lost."
Eventually the night made way to people dancing to the tunes of DJ TT.
