For every student, freshers' day is a time to relax, unwind and make new friends. But at BNM Institute of Technology, the students also used their freshers' day
as a platform to showcase their talent.

The budding engineers proved that they have more to offer than just their ranks.
The fun-filled afternoon was packed with some energetic performances, noble
advice by chief guests and support by the lecturers.

There was a strict no-entry policy for the seniors, since the day belonged to the freshers. They more than made up for this absence with loud cheers and applause.Cultural co-ordinator Shesha Prasad rightly described the event, saying, "This was a day for the freshers and conducted by the freshers themselves." But one wonders why the freshers' day was held so late in the year.

"We really wanted the students to settle in properly, before doing anything. In the course of these months, we could see how well they had adjusted and recognised some good talent too," he adds.

The students were addressed by an HR professional, who explained to them the importance of cherishing one's years in college.

They also got some valuable advice from a police inspector, on how to safeguard oneself and not get into the wrong ways of life. Rajath, a first-year student, says, "Both the talks were very valuable and important. I think it will really help me in moulding my future."

The main highlight of the day was the cultural programme. First on stage was the wrestling team, which showed its strength by lifting weights. This was followed by a beautiful rendition of a Kuvempu poem by Ansuya and Nagashree. "I have been learning classical music for a very long time now. And I felt it would be nice to showcase my talent in front of my friends," says Ansuya.

Another treat came from Tejasvini, who has been learning bharatanatyam since childhood. She presented a graceful performance, invoking Lord Ganesha.
Sri Ganesh, another student, took the programme to a whole new level with his keyboard recital.

The group song and dance kept the energy level high. But everyone really let loose when the much-awaited 'Mad Ads' came on stage. "It was a wonderful day and I really couldn't have asked for a better way to feel welcomed into the BNMIT family," sums up Nagashree.
