Indian Academy Pre-University College held a unique inter-school science exhibition called 'Innovision'. Around 35 schools participated in this exhibition.

The students enthusiastically moved around and explained their models to the visitors with great pride.

S J R Public School demonstrated an impressive model, in which every house could harness wind and solar energy to generate electricity.

Saeed, a student, says, "In Bangalore, we often face a shortage of electricity and that is why we came up with this model.

We have fixed two small windmills on the house, which can generate electricity. This model can work with solar energy also."

'Wood To Fibre', was a model from Little Bloom English High School that was selected for the 'Inspire Award' at the national level.

Talking about it, Nagarathna, a teacher, says, "This model showcases the technique used to convert wood into cotton, which is a fibre. This conversion can happen with only two types of woods — eucalyptus and casuarina. While eucalyptus is available in most parts of the country, casuarina is produced only in Canada."

Akshata,a student from Sri Sai Vidyalaya, feels that the concept of inviting school students for a pre-university exhibition is great.

She says, "Before coming here, I was very nervous. This is the first time that I have come for an inter-school exhibition. I think it is a great idea to invite school students to a science exhibition. While doing this model, I got very interested in science. I will surely look into this as an option for my pre-university studies."

T Somashekhar, the chairman of the institute, was seen visiting every model and listening to the students patiently. Later, he quizzed the students to make them think harder before explaining their concepts.

He says, "We have conducted this exhibition to promote the interest that school students have in science. Of late, very few people opt for pure sciences. Everybody is interested in applied science, but when the foundation — the basic science — itself is not properly understood, there is no way that they can do well in applied sciences. To uplift the spirit of research in the high school students, we organised this."

The principal of the institute, Shanthi Sangamithra, feels that pure science is not much encouraged.

She says, "These days everybody wants to do a BE or MBBS. Nobody wants to study physics or chemistry." She adds that the exhibition would hopefully increase some interest in these subjects.
