Life - One More Chance', a Kannada play directed by Ramesh Rao, was staged recently at K H Kalasoudha.

The play emphasised the importance of living in the present. It was neatly structured to fit three stories, which were happening simultaneously. The dialogues were sometimes witty and evoked laughter. The play had an open ending and let the climax be interpreted by the audience. Yogitha, a member of the audience, says, "The theme of the play appealed to me as it was about life. The actors did a fabulous job. We should realise that life is precious and every moment of it should be enjoyed!"

The play revolved around the story of two men and one woman. Each character came from a different background — one was a soldier while the other was a hero. The girl played the role of a BPO professional.

The play showcased how each character had desires that were not fulfilled. Maya Prasad, a theatre person who had come to watch the play, said, "I came to watch this as I was curious. I think the play could have been a lot better. The jokes were, sometimes, over the top. Though the play focussed on living in the moment, the message was not elaborated."

Many people had come to watch the play and kept on applauding while it was going on.

Umesh, says, "I liked the play as it had a good message. The characters had many aspirations although they were not properly brought out. The message could have been delivered effectively with strong emotions."

Preethi Manish, who played one of the main characters, says, "This was my first play. I am a Maharashtrian and I learnt Kannada just two years ago. Hence I was very nervous.

But I thoroughly enjoyed my character, which is that of a free and independent girl."

Director Ramesh Rao said the idea for the play had occurred to him when he was travelling. "In life, we take everything for granted. Our relationships, lifestyle, job — everything is considered to be there forever. In the process, we forget to live in the present. That is the reason why I wanted to direct a play focussing on this aspect. All the actors in this play were debutants. However, I think the play could have been better in terms of acting and direction," he says.
