The two day-inter-collegiate cultural programme of New Horizon Educational Institution, Sargam, based on the theme 'Go Green', was a huge hit with the youngsters.
The students incorporated various aspects of saving the environment and tried to spread the message of going green to everyone who visited the campus during the fest.
The fest saw a wide array of cultural events like solo singing, battle of bands, mime, mock-rock, face-painting, fashion show, Indian dance, western dance etc. Along with these, the students of various engineering streams put up stalls to exhibit the products that had been made by them. While some were selling scented candles, some displayed decorative items made from recycled products like paper.
Shruti, Shilpa, Dipannita and Monosha displayed some interesting products like boxes made with balloons, wind chimes and other decorative items.
"It took us two days to make all this and all of them have been made with products which are easily available and can be recycled as well. Many students from other colleges are taking a keen interest in how we have made these things and we have been able to sell quite a few of them," said Dipannita, a second-year biotechnology student.
The cultural show was kicked off by the 'Bamboo Symphony', a folk band, followed by the folk dance competition. The first team on the stage was Christ Junior College. The girls performed lavani, a folk dance from Maharashtra, which was energetic and expressive and floored the audience. The props matched the dance and it was a heady start to the competition. Next up were the students of New Horizon College, who presented a good mix of cultures, from bhangra to the colourful Rajasthani folk dance and ended with a lavani.
The students clearly had a great time catching up with friends as well. The DJ was the main attraction and the students could not wait to start grooving to the music. The students in the organising committee were happy that the fest turned out to be a success and many colleges participated in it. "We got some good sponsors this time and had some very reputed colleges participating in the fest despite the bandh," summed up Magesh, a member of the organising committee.
