Casey's golfing day goes to dog!
Former world number three Paul Casey had his ball stolen by a dog while lining up an eagle putt during the second round of the Dunhill Links Championship in St Andrews, Scotland.
On the green of Kingsbarns's par-five 12th hole in two, the Englishman could only watch as the animal ran away with his ball into the rough.
Casey, playing with the most decorated Olympian American swimmer Michael Phelps in the $5 million pro-am event which takes in three courses in Scotland, later carded a birdie after the delay.
The world number 118 fell outside the top 100 ranked players in August for the first time in over nine years owing to an injury-plagued 2012.
Hulk has a problem or two in Russia
Russian police have discovered a fake bomb attached to a photo of Brazil international forward Hulk at Zenit St Petersburg's training base.
The Russian top-flight club confirmed Friday the false device was found in a bag accompanied by the message, "Hulk out!"
"We are not denying the story but at the same time we are not going to comment," a club spokesperson said.
Hulk has been the subject of controversy since signing for the club earlier this month on a reported salary of $6.5 million a year.
The deal drew public criticism from Zenit captain Igor Denisov and striker Aleksandr Kerzhakov, who were subsequently dropped to the B team after demanding new wage conditions.
I am the boss here, stresses Deschamps
Didier Deschamps gave Arsene Wenger a stern reminder that he was the only France coach after the Arsenal manager said Abou Diaby should not have been picked for previous international matches.
"I want to remind him that I am the only one to decide who will be picked and how long those who are picked will play," Deschamps told a news conference after naming his 23-man squad to face Japan in a friendly and Spain in a World Cup qualifier this month.
"There is only one to decide and it's me."
Diaby was ruled out of action for three weeks after sustaining a thigh injury in a 2-1 defeat by Chelsea in the Premier League last Saturday.
"I think it was a mistake to play him with the national team," Wenger said after Diaby picked up yet another injury. "I said many times that if France wanted Diaby in Spain they should not take him for Finland and Belarus."
Bolt price-tag scares Russians away
Jamaica's Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt asked for "too much money" to appear in a promotional video for next year's World Athletics Championships, Russian organisers said.
The event is to be held from August 10-18 at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.
Bolt, who won all three sprint titles at the London Games, is expected to take a shot at his second world 100 metres title in the Russian capital. But organisers said they wouldn't include him in the promo video at any price.
"Usain Bolt's representatives got in touch with us about including the Jamaican sprinter in a promotional video," said Alexander Polinsky. "But when they named their price, we decided that we have enough of our own talented athletes who could advertise the competition,'' he added.
Kremlin backdrop for marathon at Worlds
The marathons at next year's World Championships in athletics will be run alongside some of Moscow's most famous landmarks, including the Kremlin, the Russian organisers said.
"Both men and women will have the identical route, starting and finishing at the Luzhniki Olympic stadium," Mikhail Butov, the head co-ordinator for the championships, told Reuters.
"After the start, the runners will head to the city centre along the Frunzenskaya embankment. They will also run alongside the Kremlin walls before heading back to the stadium," he said.
"They'll repeat this route four times, running the total of 42.195 kilometres (26.2 miles) before finishing at the stadium." Organisers also revealed that the total prize money for the August 10-18 championships will be $7.2 million.
