Pop goes the patola

Continuing her unwavering passion to promote the traditional hand-woven textiles of India, Deepika Govind is showcasing the 'Pop Patola', her Winter Festive 2012 Collection. An exclusive in-store promotion of her new collection, which received rave reviews at the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week, will be held until September 22, 6 pm at her store in Bangalore (21/11, Craig Park Layout, M.G.Road, Bangalore 560001.)

The 'Pop Patola' has been created out of the vibrant woven patola fabrics, from Patan, Gujarat; albeit with a tongue-in-cheek pop art interpretation. She continues to revolutionise ethnic fabrics, weaving pop art motifs in the Patola weave, and using Indian textiles in Western constructions. Thus, in 'Pop Patola', culture blends with style and modern-day icons.

Draped construction forms the foundation for the silhouettes resulting in a line of short dresses, layered skirts, peplum blouses, round hemmed dresses, unique editions of dhoti trousers, high-waisted wide legged trousers, volume based tunics and an exquisite collection of sarees, in a mélange of silk textiles. A special edition of patolas has been hand woven by master weavers from Patan, especially for Deepika Govind's new collection.

Besides a variety of patolas comprising both single and double ikats, the other textiles used in the collection are pure silks and satin silks. The 'Pop Patola' collection price range is Rs. 14000 - Rs. 25000 for dresses and Rs 35,000- Rs. 55,000 for sarees.
