The first -year students of JSS Academy of Technical Education were welcomed into the college with an orientation programme. During the welcome address, the freshers were inspired, by the faculty, to put their best foot forward.

They called upon the students to make the best of college life as these years would never return. The students were thrilled on their first day and were looking forward to a fun-filled year.

Most of them were happy that they joined the institution of their choice. "The college has good infrastructure and peaceful surroundings. The teachers are experienced and people have been very cooperative so far. It seems like a nice place to study. The seniors have been very warm and welcoming, so I am looking forward to the next four years that I will be spending here," says Deepthi M, a student of the IT department.

Some of the freshers were nostalgic about their pre-university days and said that they felt less pressurised now and were up for the challenge in college.

"Though engineering is more challenging than PUC, I feel that the pressure is not so much as far as academics is concerned. With good teachers in this college, one can manage well. Internal exams also helps us prepare for the finals," says Anupama, a first-year IT student. She adds that college is an entirely different ball game and students needed to give their best on the academic front.

The students lost no time in exploring the college premises and breaking the ice, with their seniors, on the first day itself. They socialised and mixed around with as many people as they could. There were a few who spotted their old friends and caught up with them as well.

Chiranth, a first-year student of Information Science, notes that college and pre-university days are completely different. When in pre-university, students are more relaxed but in college, the students have to be more responsible.

"The basic difference between engineering and pre-university is that there's no spoon-feeding. Students must take care of their own career here and be responsible for what they do. They must be mentally mature enough to manage themselves even though they enjoy their own kind of freedom," adds Chiranth.

The freshers are all set to open a new chapter in their life and are determined to strike a balance between learning and fun.
