The Mount Carmel Pre-University College recently held its intra-collegiate fest titled 'Iris'. The events were knit around the theme 'Abalone - Divulge the Genius in You' and the students were asked to work around that.

The 28 associations in the college put together more than 80 events. Most of the events saw an overwhelming response, with not less than 2,500 students participate in various events. Among the many events, the 'personality contest' saw more than 150 takers.

They each tried to prove their mettle in the preliminary round. The witty answers were a treat in themselves. The twelve contestants who made it to the final round were talented in their own way. The next event, 'Adaptune' by the Indian Dance Association and 'Meladdiction' by the Indian Music Association had as many as 170 participants, and so was the Mad ads equally popular with the students.

Principal Sr Sonia said that such fests created a lot of bonding among the students and fuelled the spirit of competition among them.

"Looking back, our former students often remember the fun they had participating along with their classmates and discovering the talent that they had." The students were excited to be part of the three-day event. Pravati Maulik Gupta, vice president of the Dramatics Association said, "The fest helped bring out the creativity in students. The students enthusiastically participated in all the events with much enthusiasm. Miming lent a fresh touch to dramatics, with students displaying a plethora of emotions." Among the events were '3D poster making', 'cooking without fire', 'Pookalam', group and solo dance.

Shinnu Devan, the vice-president of the Indian Dance Association said, "This year 'Adaptune' enthralled students and inspired the participants to adapt their dancing styles to the music played on the spot. This only showed their passion and commitment for dance."

The overall trophy was given away to the class winning the most number of events. The second-year SMCA won the 'Iris Rolling Trophy' for the best participation and the 'Iris Overall Trophy' for bagging the maximum number of prizes. Smrithi Mannar from second year PCME was crowned 'Iris 2012' title for winning personality contest, for the second consecutive year. Smrithi said, "It feels great to have won again, especially since I did not expect it. It has instilled a lot of confidence in me and taught me a little more about myself."
