The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) presented a Hindustani music concert by H G Chaitra, in the City recently.

This performance, held at Yavanika, was part of the 'Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme'. Chaitra who was trained under the guidance of Nagaraja Rao in Kirana Gharana, rendered a brilliant performance, which began with raga jog in villambit ektaal, followed by the bada khyal and chota khyal in dhrut ektaal, which lasted for 40 minutes.

Chaitra had a deep but clear voice. She sang and played the tanpura equally well. She was soon joined on stage by her father, H S Gopinath on tabla and Venkatesh Alkode on harmonium.

There was an interesting energy that was visible between the father and daughter. The duo was expressive and exchanged a lot of light moments throughout the show. The two blend really well and their talent and professionalism were visible on stage.

The artiste also performed a few devarnamas by poets like Purandaradas and Kanakadas as well as some vachanas by Akka Mahadevi.

"Yavanika is a fantastic platform for any classical performer, be it in music or dance. I've been singing here for the last 10 years and it's always a pleasure to return to this stage," shares Chaitra, who has been learning Hindustani classical music for the last 18 years.

The audience loved her performance and confessed that years of training and perfection were visible throughout the performance. R Muddukrishna, a member of the audience, said, "Her tone was very good.

It was an interesting selection of music, considering that it was easy to listen to and wasn't too heavy." Being a regular at Yavanika, he added that the auditorium was crowded, considering that she has won many prestigious awards for her talent.
