The senior students of Acharya Institute of Technology recently went out of their way to make their freshers feel welcome.
A programme was put together, which included some interesting stalls that showcased the achievements of different departments of the college. A few innovative dances were presented as well.
It was the perfect occasion for all barriers between the senior and junior batches to break down, and the students mingled freely with one another, getting to know a little bit more about their peers.
While the freshers seized the chance to understand the institution they had joined, to help them navigate their way through their years at college, the seniors lost no opportunity to spend time with the new entrants and show them the ropes.
Brinda Rao, a fourth-year CSE student, says, "This is a great way to welcome the juniors. I just went around and was so happy to see the students at the stalls. Every department has done its best to welcome the students. This is a great stage to show students' creativity."
Stalls were set up by different departments, including basic science, biotechnology, electronic and electrical, computer science engineering, electronic and communication and information science engineering among others.
The students spent a lot of time around these stalls, since these provided a host of interesting innovations which had sprung from the students and faculty members themselves. One of the star attractions was a hybrid electric vehicle, called 'Hybrid Trike' — a brainchild of the students of the electronics and mechanical departments.
Shweta Naik, a third-year aeronautical engineering student, adds, "The event is very innovative, which helps break the barriers between seniors and juniors. We have displayed parts of aircraft at our stall and when our model was explained to the juniors, it was nice to see them look so thrilled."
The juniors were no less excited by the whole event. Spending time at the stalls helped them get into discussions with both their seniors as well as their faculty members.
At the end of the programme, certificates were issues to the toppers of the engineering department.
Pravin, a student who obtained the first rank in the civil engineering department, says, "It's great to be called the topper of the civil engineering department. I wish to continue the same performance till my final year."
