Teachers' Day was celebrated in a special way at Maharani Ammani College for Women recently.
The five-day affair saw the teachers dancing, walking the ramp, participating in a race and playing cricket while the students cheered them on.
The campus was buzzing with energy. However, this time, it was the teachers who were more energetic than the students.
Lavish arrangements were made for the teachers right from the moment they entered the college.
They were greeted with flowers and treated to a special lavish South Indian breakfast.
"We greeted them at the entrance with flowers and gifts . We had also arranged breakfast as well as lunch for the teachers. Since it is their day, we wanted to make it
special. The events for the teachers have been going on for the last five days and the teachers have been very enthusiastic and participating in these activities," said Faiza, a member of the student council.
Volleyball, softball, cricket, throw ball and football, among other events, were
organised by the students. Fun activities like running race, needle and thread, lemon-and-spoon race etc were also conducted.
Rangoli, cooking without fire, mehendi, mono act, fashion show etc saw active participation of the teachers.
The students were very excited to see their teachers on stage dancing and singing.
"I don't think there was such a grand arrangement exclusively for teachers in any other college. Our teachers are very talented and very sporting. We have hundred plus teachers in the college and it is very nice to see them up on stage," said Anugha, a PU student.
The programme began with an inaugural dance and was followed by the performances of the teachers. Glittering in lehengas and beautiful saris, they started the programme with a Rajasthani dance.
However, what stole the show was the fashion event, where the students were seen cheering and yelling for their teachers.
Wearing different types of saris, they walked the ramp with grace and elegance.
"We wait for this day every year, it's so festive and nice. The entire college has been decked up and we had been preparing for this event for sometime now," summed up Nikitha, a student.
