Is 3D fading away?
There is a lot of hype surrounding 3D films in Bollywood. Several film-makers have been experimenting with the format of late. But now, with two large films in this format cancelled, one wonders whether the novelty of 3D already wearing off for Bollywood?
Industry members, however, feel that this isn't the case. They insists that this doesn't mean one should write 3D off as a format, says film reviewer Rajeev Masand. "Outside of America, it's still a big draw," says Masand, who feels Bollywood is tentative since shooting a film in 3D is expensive. "All the industry needs is one successful film that stands out in terms of both content and execution," he adds.
Another director, Bhatt, however, doesn't seem to sure. "The process of learning to shoot in 3D is too laborious," he pronounces. "I think 3D in Bollywood lives and dies with me."
Akshay's new ride
Akshay Kumar will be seen cruising on a super bike for his upcoming movie, 'Oh My God', which also features Paresh Rawal and is scheduled to release on September 28.
Apparently, the motorcycle has been especially conceptualised for the movie, keeping in mind the theme and concept of the film. In the past, movies like 'Sunburn', 'Ghost Rider' and 'Tron' have also thrilled audiences with these huge bikes.
Apparently, this motorcycle has been designed keeping in mind the look of the film and the personality of Akshay. Akshay Kumar loved the design and was very impressed by the drool factor of the motorcycle, which costs approx Rs 10 lakhs.
'Oh My God' is based on Umesh Shukla's famous Gujarati play Kanji Viruddh Kanji and is about quirky events in normal everyday lives. Akshay Kumar, is playing the modern day Krishna, wearing leather jackets and a pair of aviators.
Short and sweet for Shirish
Shirish Kunder's latest flick 'Joker', which is touted to be India's first extraterrestrial comedy, has plenty of action and comedy — but the movie itself is rather short, being a mere 105 minutes long.
However, the director doesn't feel that this is a shortcoming. In fact, he thinks that keeping the movie short is actually a sensible discussion.
He says, "All action-packed big Hollywood family entertainers, that kids from the world over have loved — like 'Spiderman', 'Transformers', etc — have a run time of approximately 90 minutes.
'Joker' is about one hour and 45 minutes and it has all the ingredients you need to enjoy a pure family entertainer. Its a family film that will make you and your kids come out with a smile on your face."
Hopefully, Shirish's confidence will translate to 'moolah' in the box office.
