Prometheus (3D)
English (A)
Cast: Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron
Director: Ridley Scott
The much-awaited Prometheus, a prequel to Ridley Scott's 1979 movie Aliens, with its exhilarating visuals is an absolute pleasure for the eyes but not so much for the mind as occasional flimsy dialogues can spoil the mood set by its beautiful theme.
But this one will make sure that you are glued to the screen till the end.
The entire movie is shot using 3D camera and the opening scene makes best use of it as it lets you traverse through the perfectly imperfect landscapes of the earth.
Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) are explorers who find clues to the origin of mankind and are determined to pursue a journey in outer space to know more.
Seventeen explorers led by the cold and robot-like Weyland Corporation official Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron), with the help of the android David (Michael Fassbender) go in the scientific exploratory vessel Prometheus to a foreign planet.
Apart from a gargoyle and bodies inside an underground spaceship, they find more than what they expect to find. The crew is driven into an adventure that decides their fate and that of the earth.
Rapace is the hero of this movie.
Prometheus has a great theme although there are many aspects that remind you of other sci-fi movies — slimy creatures, even the insides of the spaceship look very familiar.
As much as the crew is determined to reach their goal, the wine and merry making inside the Prometheus renders them too playful at times and makes you want to ask them to stop dilly-dallying and get right down to business.
For a big budget Scott movie like this one, the background score is a bit disappointing. It is good but not exceptional.
Overall, it is the excellent visuals that make Prometheus a success.
