Was Sonakshi the second choice?
Ajay Devgan's upcoming flick, Son of Sardaar has been creating ripples in the film circuit for a while now, and for many reasons. The film has all the ingredients that promise to make it an out-and-out masala blockbuster — power-packed dialogues, a pretty heroine, plenty of action and of course, style.
Until now, Sonakshi Sinha has been riding high on the waves of hype the movie is generating. But recently, rumours have begun to surface that the director of the upcoming movie Son of Sardaar, Ashwini Dhir, did not select Sonakshi Sinha as his first choice for the Ajay Devgan starrer.
Apparently, he first approached Kajol to play the lead opposite Ajay Devgan, and Kajol
declined the movie because of household commitments, after which she suggested Sonakshi be given the role.
However, others claim that this isn't the truth and that Sonakshi was, in fact, the
original choice in the director's mind. It is alleged that she was the first heroine to be approached for the role and gave her nod to the film immediately.
Whatever the case may be, the film seems to be gearing up to break all records at the box office. Son of Sardaar is slated for a Deepavali release on November 13.
No dearth of controversy
Bollywood, it seems, has no dearth of controversies. Gehana Vasisth was arrested recently by the Pune police from her residence at Oshiwara, near Lokhandwala, in suburban Mumbai and produced at the Shivaji Nagar Magistrates holiday court.
This is because of a controversial photo shoot she allegedly posed for. Gehana, who is suffering from diabetics and is under treatment, claims that she is innocent and the alleged photo shoot was not done by her.
The photos were uploaded by her former publicist Hemanta Dasgupta, against whom she has already filed a police complaint. The flag photo was shot by some friends in Chhattisgarh last year while on a holiday.
Gehana is a 21-year-old engineer by qualification and has worked in the IT sector before becoming a model. She has been part of ten music videos and films like Daal Mein Kuch Kala Hein, featuring Veena Malik, which released recently and Kaanch by Kalpana Lajmi which is yet to release.
Twist in the tale
In Laadla, Raju (Anil Kapoor) is an unemployed youth who lives with his disabled mother (Farida Jalal). On his way to a job interview, he saves the life of a wealthy businessman Laxminarain Jetley (Anupam Kher), who offers him a job in a textile mill run by his daughter Sheetal (Sridevi).
Raju goes to work, but is disgusted by Sheetal's insensitive attitude towards the factory workers. He meets Kajal (Raveena Tandon) who is a fellow-worker and they fall in love. Meanwhile, Sheetal finds herself being insulted by Raju every now and then and decides to teach him a lesson for which she plans to marry him.
She goes to his house and pressurises his mother to agree to the match and
Raju, who has never gone against his mother's wishes, is compelled to marry Sheetal. Sheetal makes his life an endless tug-of-war between his principles and her own domineering ways. Tune in to the movie on Zee Cinema at 9 pm on August 31.
