'Cottage Mela'
A 'Cottage Mela' is being organised by the Central Cottage Industries Emporium (CCIE) till August 26 at Safina Plaza, Infantry road.
The 'Mela' provides an opportunity to behold the rich and varied art and craft traditions of India's culturally enriched regions. Jewellery, art objects, paintings, metal ware, woodcraft, furniture, lamps, pottery, women's and men's wear, saris, shawls, accessories, dress fabrics, marble craft, herbal products are on display.
Creative writing

Screening
The screening of Travelling Film South Asia (TFSA) films will be held on August 17 and 18, 6.30 pm at Bangalore International Centre, Teri Complex, 4th Main, 2nd Cross, Domlur II Stage.

A flashback
On August 15, 5 pm, Suchitra Film Society will screen the film 'Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero', directed by Shyam Benegal, at Suchitra Auditorium.
The film focusses on the last five years of Subhash Chandra Bose's life, and includes his life story in flashback sequences.
'A Walk in...'
Louis Philippe, in support of India Foundation for the Arts, will present the Bangalore premiere of the English play 'A Walk in the Woods', featuring Naseeruddin Shah and Rajit Kapoor, at Chowdiah Memorial Hall on August 17, 7.30 pm. It is written by American playwright Lee Blessing and directed by Ratna Pathak Shah. The play, produced by Motley, is an adaptation of Blessing's work of the same name. The play also marks Ratna's directorial debut. 'Nam Thim...'
Vasp, the theatre group, is staging the play Nam Thim Thana on August 16, 7.30 pm at Ranga Shankara. 'Nam Thim Thana' is a comedy with six short stories. It is a blend of few short stories by BeeChi and few taken from 'BeeChi Bullets', a book written by teachers of Rangayana.
Marathi act
Karhade Mitra Mandal, a socio-cultural organisation, is presenting the Marathi musical drama Sangeet Maanapaman, written by Kakasaheb Khadilkar, on August 19, 10.15 am at Ravindra Kalakshetra. This is a 100 year-old-play and was initially popularised by the legendary Balagandharva. Classical vocalist Rahul Deshpande has now revived it.
'The Snow Queen'
'The Snow Queen' will be staged at Ranga Shankara on August 21 and 22 at 7.30 pm.
The play is produced by the Unicorn Theatre, UK's flagship theatre for young audience, with support from the British Council in association with Trestle Theatre.

Comedy time
The Kannada-based theatre group Some Some Kala Samsthe is staging Muddanna Promotion Prasanga, a comedy written by Rajendra Karanth and directed by B S Ramamurthy, on August 20, 7 pm. The play will be performed at Hanumanthanagar. For details, call 9986911321.
Solo concert
As part of the Dramatic Ragas, Tara Kini will present a solo concert on August 18, 6.30 pm at Jagriti, Whitefield. Tara has been involved with music on many levels including composition of music for the stage, conducting music workshops and performing. Tara will be accompanied on tabla by Shashibhushan Gurjar, pakhavaj by Dnyaneshwar Deshmukh and tanpura by Dipti Rao.
Choir singing
The North-East Olive Branch Charitable Trust is presenting 'The Independent Church of India (ICI) Central Choir', winner of the 'Best Choir Award' from the entire north-east region to the City. They will perform on August 17, 6.30 pm at Bethel AG International Worship Centre, near Hebbal Ring Road flyover. Harmony in arts
AIM, an organisation initiated by Suma Sudhindra and Veena Murthy Vijay, will present 'BIAF Celebrates Harmony Through Arts' from August 31 to September 16. On August 31, 6 pm, Kadri Gopalanath will present a saxophone recital at Chowdiah Hall. At 6.30 pm, Ranjana Gauhar will present an odissi recital — 'Chitrangada', a dance-drama based on Rabindranath Tagore's literary works.
'Freedom Jam'
The '17th Annual Freedom Jam', a free music festival, will be held on August 18 and 19. There will be 65 different musical acts of all different styles. The electric sessions will be held at GO Desi, near Peenya Police Station, off Tumkur Road on August 18 and 19, 11am to 9 pm. Group works
A group exhibition by Ashu Gupta and Kanthi V will be held at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat, Kumara Krupa Road till August 20, 10.30 pm to 7 pm.
The exhibition will have paintings by Ashu Gupta and Kanthi V who have as their theme various dance forms (Nritya) and the beauty of birds ('Flying High') respectively.
'Candid Perceptions'
'Candid Perceptions', a solo exhibition of paintings by K Karunakaran, will be held at Venkatappa Art Gallery, Visvesaraya Technological Museum Compound, Kasturba Road, from August 18 to 21, 11 am to 6 pm. The works consist of the artist's perception of varied subjects — landscapes, portraits, temples, churches, birds and animals.
Bharatanatyam
Prakruthi L S will be performing a bharatanatyam recital on August 17, 6 pm at Khincha Auditorium. The dance is a part of the Bhavan's 75th anniversary celebrations.
Students' work
The sixth batch of students of Attakkalari's Diploma in Movement Arts and Mixed Media will have their graduation presentations on August 24, 7 pm at JSS Auditorium, Jayanagar.
