Too personal for Kat!
Actress Katrina Kaif might have played a bride on-screen many times, but off-screen she is not so comfortable talking about marriage. Ask her about when she will tie the knot and she says, "I think marriage is something like a very personal question. If people constantly ask that question, it becomes slightly uncomfortable. It cannot work like that."
In her forthcoming release Ek Tha Tiger, in one of the scenes, Katrina asks the same question of co-star Salman, who plays a spy in the action-thriller released on August 15.
In his father's footsteps
Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt adopted his father Sunil Dutt's dacoit avatar from the 1963 film Mujhe Jeene Do for his upcoming movie Son Of Sardar (SOS). The actor had plans of
remaking his father's film Mujhe Jeene Do, but the plan has been incorporated in the Ajay Devgan-starrer SOS. If a reliable source is to be believed, Sanjay's clothes and make-up have been modelled around his father's look.However, this wasn't the original plan.
"When Sanjay signed SOS, he didn't even know what his role was. He just did it blindly for his friend Ajay Devgan, who's producing the film. No particular look or
get-up was planned for Sanjay initially. But then Agneepath came. In the film, the special look went a long way in making Sanjay's character a success. That's when Ajay suggested a special get-up for his pal Sanjay to director Ashwin Dheer," says a source.
While various looks were being discussed, Sanjay suggested his father's Mujhe Jeene Do look, which had fascinated him since he was a child. Dheer says the Mujhe Jeene Do look went a long way in giving character and personality to Sanjay Dutt's part in SOS. "Dutt plays Sonakshi Sinha's over-possessive brother. Yes, his look and character bear a definite resemblance to Sunil Dutt sahab in Mujhe Jeene Do. In fact, we put Sanjay on a horse after a very long time. It's uncanny how much he resembles his father in SOS. When I pointed it out to him, he got very emotional," says the director.
This is not the first time that Sanjay has donned his dad's on-screen dacoit avatar. In 1990, Sanjay did Jeene Do, which was a straight homage to Mujhe Jeene Do.
Sanjay later felt that at that time he was too young to carry it off. "Now is the time when Sanjay Dutt is discovering the wonder that his father was, and so he is able to convey his deep admiration in his performance," adds Dheer. Sanjay has a hand-to-hand, fist-to-fist combat with Ajay during the climax of SOS, and he reflects his father's personality very visibly in the scene, according to the source. SOS will hit screens on November 13.
'Alia is fabulous'
Actress-turned-director Pooja Bhatt is keen to remake her own film Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi with sister Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. The 1991 film Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and featured Pooja Bhatt and Aamir Khan in the lead. "I would love to remake Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi with Alia and Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. I think if there is anyone who could take my place in that film, then it is Alia. And as far as Aamir's character is concerned, I think Ranbir is the best choice," Pooja says.
"I am dreaming about this. It is my dream to cast them," she adds. In Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi Pooja played the role of a daughter of a rich shipping tycoon — Anupam Kher — while Aamir Khan played a reporter. Meanwhile, Alia is making her debut in Bollywood with Karan Johar's directorial venture 'Student of the Year'. In this film, Alia stars opposite newcomers Siddharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan, son of director David Dhawan. The film produced by Karan Johar and co-produced by Shah Rukh Khan, releases on October 19. Pooja is elated looking at the first trailer of 'Student of the Year' and is all praises for Alia. "Alia is fabulous. We are happy that she is making her debut with a film like 'Student of the Year'. We have seen the trailer and it is amazing, Alia looks brilliant. Looking at it I feel a new star is born," Pooja said.
The cycle of music
Playback singer Kumar Sanu, who has delivered many a hit number singing for some of Bollywood's superstars, is set to stage a comeback and is convinced that the era of melodious songs will soon return.
"The process has already begun and no one can stop melodious songs from returning," he says. "Last I had recorded for the Hindi film Rowdy Rathore but I will be recording songs for 60 movies soon," he adds.
Sanu points out that melodious tunes had been relegated to the background for the last five or six years, when western music had taken centre stage. But he adds that it's just a cycle, as styles keep changing. The return of melodious songs was inevitable.
He denies that his songs are heard less nowadays. In fact, the present day songs were not of his style, he claims.
Asked about the reality shows aired on various channels, Sanu explains that the shows provide a platform to showcase young talent but the effort will be proved meaningless if the talents were not nurtured properly. "I do not think young talent can flourish without proper opportunity to exhibit their mettle," he states.
Awarded the Filmfare Best Male Playback for five consecutive years since 1990, Sanu was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2009.
He began his career singing Jagjit Singh's film songs and went on to work with composers including Naushad, Ravindra Jain, Hridayanath Mangeshkar, R K Razdan, Kalyanji Anandji and Usha Khanna.
He won his first Filmfare award for his singing in Aashiqui (1990).
