Summer is a great time to get trendy, chic and comfortable with fashion. Cotton clothes and other lighter fabrics are the flavour of the season.

It is also the time when proper attention must be paid to footwear. The need for socks and stockings is long over and the focus must shift to exquisite and stylish sandals, slippers and shoes.

The feet should be allowed to breathe as much as possible and closed shoes can be given a pass, apart from those required on formal occasions. Both men and women have a wide array of footwear styles to choose from this season.

Delhi seems to be a paradise for foot-wear shopping, with bazaar shelves overflowing with variety. The bustling markets of New Delhi showcase extremely attractive footwear. If you want to find the perfect footwear for yourself, take a look at some of the local stores and try on a couple of styles before buying a pair.

A wide range in colours and designs is available at prices ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 2,000 or more, depending on the brand, material used and quality. Footwear can now be matched to clothing, thanks to the myriad shades they come in. Always consider your wardrobe before picking shoes. Do a mental run through of your cupboard.

Pause while going through your regular wear and make a note of the common colours. Make sure the footwear you choose is soft on your feet and versatile in nature.
What's trending?

Twinkle Verma, a student of graduation at Delhi University says, "I love shopping for footwear in the Delhi markets, especially Lajpat Nagar, Janpath and Karol Bagh. The showrooms here are always well-stocked with lovely designs to choose from. I like to wear strappy and delicate-looking foot wear.

My friends and I prefer heels for college parties and other special functions. Greek-style flatwear and wedges are a rage for their comfort factor and vibrant colours. They go with many kinds of dresses, both formal and casual."

Footwear stores are brimming with designs that work for casual, formal and party wear. Connaught place, Karol Bagh, Rajouri garden, South Extension market and Lajpat Nagar markets are popular stops while shopping for foot wear.

Different patterns are available in bright colours like electric blue, red, purple, shades of green and blue. These colours not only spruce up a boring salwar-kurta ensemble, but are comfortable for daily wear too.

Brown, camel, white and black colours almost never go out of fashion and match almost any colour of garment. Classic styles are available in lower heels, high heels and flats. Comfortable slip-ons help the feet breathe during intense humidity and heat.

Youngsters also like to have chappals in attractive colours. They are comfortable as well as stylish. Strappy sandals, flip-flops, Greek-style sandals and open-toed shoes look extremely stylish and cool.

Tip-toes, which are shoes open in the front, are also very popular and comfortable. They suit all trendy attires — like a pair of jeans, shorts, capris as well as the more lady-like suits and skirts, both short and long.

Rajiv, a sales representative at Woodland, Rajouri Garden, says, "At our store, the most popular designs are the wedges and platform shoes. Youngsters come looking for such patterns for daily use. High heels are popular for formal wear."
So, style, colour, comfort and design, all are well-packaged into a pair of smart chappals, sandals or shoes! Smarten up with a pair of smart foot wear. Go ahead, make a style statement!
